Glasiären, Gothenburg

Glasiären (‘the Glacier’) is a newly built office block in Kvillebäcken. It is a spectacular building named ‘the Glacier’ because the building and its glass façades act as a barrier between the residential district and the tramline. It is designed as a futuristic office block with 5 floors and a totally unique glass façade. The façade’s special glass panes are controlled electronically and change colour to adjust the amount of incoming sunlight and heat.

Matting’s Tactile Guidance Systems in aluminium have been used to ensure the accessibility of the building. Light-coloured inserts have been used for the library and darker ones for the rest of the building. This optimises the contrast with the floor.
